It is absolutely our belief that volunteering should be done simply for the pleasure of helping out and for the benefits that are gained from doing so. Volunteering at parkrun is an equal form of participation, where the act of volunteering itself is the reward.
Volunteers are fundamental to the delivery of all events, and carry out roles such as setting up the event, marshalling, timekeeping, scanning, handing out finish tokens or tail walking, to name just a few.
Children are a part of every parkrun community and we encourage them to volunteer. Children who are volunteering should always be within close proximity of a responsible adult volunteer.
Our guiding principles for volunteering are:
- Volunteer for the love of it
- Treat everyone as a friend
- Be kind and respectful
- Unite as a team
- Be reliable, responsible and attentive
- Be helpful and enthusiastic
- Do your best
- Respect our principles
Volunteering at parkrun is a hugely positive experience, and is a form of participation that is inclusive, respected and accessible to everyone.
There is so much to gain from volunteering:
- Knowledge
- Social connections
- Improved physical and mental health
- Skills
- Confidence
- Motivation
- A sense of belonging
It's really easy to volunteer and each event supports its own volunteers. Just follow the simple steps below:
- Take a look at the Future Roster on the event website (hover over the volunteering tab in the top right of the event website) and email the address at the top of the page with your full name, your parkrun ID (the number under your barcode) and let them know when you'd like to volunteer and what you’d like to do.
- Have a chat with the event team at the event and sign up for a volunteer role.
-
Update your volunteering options on your personal profile page. This allows you to receive volunteer appeal emails from specific events.
To access your parkrun profile sign in at parkrun.com/signin. Click Email Options and opt in (and out) of receiving volunteer appeal emails from specific parkrun events.
Please do not contact parkrun HQ offering to volunteer as we won't be able to help you. This needs to be done by local event teams.
